Fort Collins Mental Health Counselor and Life Coach: Dating Red Flags

Today's Blog Post

We all know that red flags are not a good sign (i.e. warning, caution, danger).  In dating, do you know that red flags are linked to personal boundaries?

Trauma survivors who date struggle to identify red flags because they do not know or understand their boundaries.  If they are aware of their boundaries, they might have poor boundary management skills because they have normalized unhealthy (i.e., red flag) behaviors.

Here are a few dating red flags:

- Ex-partner bashing
- Consistently redirect conversation back to themselves
- Texting, sexting, ghosting, playing house
- Not transparent, or forthcoming
- Poor compromise and negotiation skills (i.e., you lose)
- Privilege/entitlement (i.e., kind vs. disrespectful)
- You do not feel seen, heard, and comfort levels are low
- Separated living w/spouse vs. divorced not living w/spouse
- Secret vs. private lifestyle
