Fort Collins Mental Health Counselor and Life Coach: Gaslighting

Today's Blog Post

In the DSM - 5, gaslighting does not exist.  IMHO, the closest diagnosis to gaslighting is narcissistic personality disorder.  Regardless, gaslighting is now a popular psychosocial term - used in everyday language.  Like narcissism, people who gaslight lack the ability to engage in truth, accountability, and distort reality for personal profit.  Here are four common gaslighting techniques:

- Denying your reality - it never happened.

- Change the narrative and deny your emotional experience.

- Project or transfer fault onto you (i.e., no self accountability).

- Fail to apologize and make amends.

Via a life value-boundary development process, our counseling-coaching style helps people create a rich-dynamic partnership or marriage.
