Fort Collins Mental Health Counselor and Life Coach: Happy Hormones, Part II

Today's Blog Post

Would you like to improve your mind-body health?

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that affects mood, anxiety, and happiness.  Low serotonin levels in the brain are thought to contribute to depression.  Activities that can increase serotonin levels include:

- Physical activity releases tryptophan, an amino acid that the brain uses to make serotonin. Regular exercise can also trigger the release of serotonin.

- Exposure to sunlight or bright light stimulates the body's circadian rhythm and can increase serotonin levels.

- Yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation.

- 8 to 9 hours of sleep per night can help regulate hormones that can reduce chronic stress and normalize serotonin levels.

- Laugh and spend time with people you love.

- Eat a healthy balanced diet.

- Practicing self-care, expressing gratitude.

Our counseling-coaching style helps you be the best you - that includes, recommending lots of serotonin activities.  We meet with clients at our private office, video, and outdoors.  At our Fort Collins (non-shared) private office, clients enjoy:
